About

Shannon Cotterill is a multi national & international award winning photographer, based on the Central Coast of NSW. With a background in ceramics, sculpture & life drawing, she found that photography is her chosen medium to really express her creative energy.

Originally trained in 35mm film photography, this process of ‘getting it right in capture’ has transferred over to her digital work. With professional lighting, hand built sets, costumes, body paint – or getting in a wetsuit for underwater sessions, she prefers to capture in camera rather than retouch elements in later.

Shannon operated a successful portrait & wedding studio ‘Bloom Photography’ since 2002, but in 2011 had a yearning to create these images that seem to find her through dreams & visions. Finally in 2019 she has let Bloom go, has made space for new creative energy & ideas to emerge…

Shannon’s imagery is an extension of her own artistic exploration of the world, most ideas first sparking & emerging during the middle of the night. That divine space in between dreaming & over thinking life...

“These images won’t leave my head until they have been written down, created, pulled into form & pushed out into the world. I will see the completed image in my minds eye, then have to sort out how I will breathe life into it! As you can imagine it does cause some sleepless nights deep in thought… I do get rather obsessed with an idea until it’s completed.

I want my images to create a space for people to get lost in when they view them - to feel something, to connect to a deeper part of themselves through the image”
